If I had ?349,000 I would spend it on a property where you don't need to cook people breakfasts and change lots of bedding Bicycle dude

It looks like a bigger version of our little cheap Lincolnshire cottage
 • me too! I can't think of anything worse than running a B& B, having to be nice to strangers all the time , feeding them and cleaning up after them. Shudder. :96:
 • What happened to the rest of this thread?
 • I think Shorn had a twiddle about with it. Something about moving it because of Helen.

I don't really know. we seem to have two of them now! Something to do with bala(don't say the next bit)leries joining. Afraid it is water under the bridge now Jim. Maybe the other thread with the same name has the rest?
 • I quite like this.

https://www.aspc.co.uk/search/property/339465/24-Knock-Street/Banff/

Only one bedroom but two attic rooms and space for sheds outside.
 • Yes if you move the greenhouse it looks like there is room for a 40ft container which should be enough space to store all your valuable stock - so the house could just be a home :-) The attics look particularly nice.
 • It doesn't show the steps to the attic, that could be a problem for getting stuff up there.

It does look like a near perfect setup otherwise - a normal downstairs, with attic used as an office space & lots of storage.

There's a post office in the shop in the village, which is open long hours.
http://www.iopeningtimes.co.uk/Post-Office/Banff-Whitehills/

Cross the road and up a side street you get a wonderful view of the bay.
https://goo.gl/maps/XCPXbz4tz4N2
 • Are you tempted Jim ?
 • No, I'm just dreaming.

Don't fancy having to climb an attic ladder when I'm older.

Ladder_fall.gif

It's called a loft-ladder, Jim. Fitted in an hour and ?40 from B & Q or some such. Alternatively, actual stairs would surely be simple enough? Sounds like a very good deal to me.
 • I'm intrigued by the massive carpet stain in picture 7
Do you think there's been a murrrder? dribble_01
 • Ever tried to carry a full fruitbox of books up a loft-ladder?

I did wonder about the stain.

Yes, well, big things, not books. I find the size of the 'ole is the problem. But you could get over that. make another one and use a pulley system. I shouldn't worry about the stain.

Shortly after we moved into this house, still with the original carpets, a neighbour came round. 'Still got the stained carpets, I see. She potty trained two of them on those, you know.'

Yes I have all my games stored in my attic and have a loft ladder which is fine.

Looks fab to me, I can't believe the price and there is so much space and loads of outdoor potential, if I lived anywhere near I would be after that. I would convert one of the attic rooms into a spare bedroom with the other as an en-suite and then extend the store room and have it as my office and have a storage container for all my stock.
 • Not sure what the neighbours would think if you plonked a container out the back. Probably against some planning law too.
It's very important in villages to get on with as many people as possible.
There does look plenty of room to put up a wooden 'summer house'.

By the time you did all that you'd be as well just buying something better.
http://www.stewartwatson.co.uk/data/9833.pdf
• I prefer the first one as the garden is ready to use :-)

Love the carpets...
 • ......those are the sort of patterns you get when you rub your eyes too hard.

I wonder if there's a carpet museum near Banff that would take them ? Might make a few quid.
 • The carpet shop looks like a museum.

https://goo.gl/maps/ge6bHcbwDZ82

It even has a blue plaque.

https://goo.gl/maps/KLWT5sN8QfP2

I contemplated something like that when I was at uni as an alternative to the crummy hall of residence. Of course, we didn't have the technology then; we called it a caravan. With bucket.
 • All you have to do now is put "eco" in front of anything, and some sap will fall for it. Thus making loadsamoney.
 • A bit too much like an oil platform cabin for me.
 • Not the most desirable looking property, but a cheap retirement option. These were originally pensioner council houses.
Bonus of a garage for all the crap.
For the money, I can't think of much better.

https://www.aspc.co.uk/search/property/340387/30-Knock-Street/Banff/

A bungalow definitely appeals to me, but I would need a very large one considering all the stock I have. If I can get the current mortgage paid off, I plan to trade mine in for a detached house or bungalow with a granny annexe to put all my crap in, and therefore have a lounge that does not resemble steptoes & sons
